A little rain...

We've had a little rain this morning and into the afternoon but kids have still been outside enjoying activities.  The beach hasn't been the most popular place on camp this week but there were still kids down there today with the chillier temps.  Above is a picture of Ga Ga which is a really fast paced game of dodge ball.  This picture doesn't show it, but we just put field turf down on the cement surface, so this afternoon kids were trying that out and it was as popular as ever.   Even with the rain it, its been a good day and we're looking forward to servant fair, campfire and Drawn to the word tonight!  We did take cabin photos today as well so we will be posting those on our shutterfly account for parents to download or print if they want.  We'll send that information home with kids and post it on here how to find those.    Hope to have another post of pictures and updates tonight.

Agape!

Agape was great last night.   Normally we will have Agape outside because of how warm it can get in the Cross Fire chapel, but we had to stay inside with the chance of rain.  Still, Dave did awesome and the kids seem to love it.  This is our seventh year hosting Dave and we love the energy and different style of worship he provides to kids.  After Agape, we had canteen and campfire and the kids went to bed around 9:30.  There were a few thunderstorms that rumbled through but nothing serious and from most accounts checking with counselors, a lot of the kids couldn't even hear the thunder.

Today kids are finishing breakfast right now and then headed off to chapel.  After chapel, Bible study will be focusing on the Blind man story and how Jesus encounters those in need.  Tonight we have an awesome worship, Drawn to the Word, that kids have loved in the past, so hopefully we will update more on afternoon and evening activities.

Awesome start to day 3!

Greetings from Wapo this Tuesday,

We have gone through chapel and most cabins are in their cabin groups currently doing Bible study.  Chapel and Bible studies focus on the Woman at the well story and how Jesus encountered the Samaritan woman.  We also started horseback riding and land connection today.  So the 7-9 graders will be heading to our Ox Lake Site for horseback riding, while our 4-6th graders head to a farm about 7 miles away to see a bunch of animals and learn how resources are used here and around the world.  After lunch the kids head into free time, where the beach, store and art shop will be open.   We then host Agape (Hip Hop Worship) tonight so the kids seem to be getting excited for that.   The sun is shining and it looks to be a warm day!  Look forward to updating more later!

Seeing the Son

Today is the official first full day of camp!  The cool weather this morning was perfect to play Mighty Mighty Scoop Noodle Challenge. Then the sun came out and warmed up enough for the campers to brave the cool lake water for their swim tests! Following was free time.  The craft of the day in the art shop was survival bracelet making which was a huge hit.  Now we are preparing for dinner and campfire tonight!   Pictures are to come.

Praising God for the great weather!

First Chapel, Bible Study and on our way to swim tests!

Greetings from Wapo - Week 1 Day 2,

We checked in with counselors this morning and on all accounts the kids had a good night sleep.  We just finished chapel and will try and post a picture of that soon.  The Chapel and Bible study that followed focused on Peter today, so the kids learned how doubt and faith collide through the life of Peter as he encountered Jesus.  Swim tests will be at 1:15 today after kids eat lunch, so we will hopefully have some photo updates of that.  Thankfully the sun is shining and warming up the Wapo peninsula just in time for our first swim tests of the summer.

Check back soon for picture updates!

First Day Of Camp!

This is the first day of camp for Summer 2013!

The kids have brought smiles, laughter, and an amazing energy to Camp Wapo so far and the staff is thrilled to have them here. This afternoon over 230 campers registered, found out where they will be living for the week, was greeted by their counselors, and met all of their cabin mates for the upcoming week. After a delicious dinner meal consisting of pizza, carrots, corn chips, and cookies, they split off into their cabins doing various 'ice breaker' games, challenge activities, and a large scavenger hunt of the camp.

We hope the weather tonight will be nice enough to have an outdoor campfire worship to start the week off right!

Summer 2013

Summer feels like a long ways off with all this April snow, but that hasn't slowed the kids from registering!  It looks to be another great summer at the Wapo site.  We have an incredible staff coming in for training at the end of May and the first week of kids will be June 7th.  We hope to have 5 blog entries at a minimum each day, so please check back in June when the kids arrive!
